Self-Care Ideas for Caregivers During the School Year

By Roz Jones

As the back-to-school year ramps up, so does the pace for caregivers. While it can be exciting to have children in school, it can also be challenging. There are new activities and schedules to juggle, and it can be tough to find time for yourself. The back-to-school season is a time when Caregivers need to focus on self-care in order to stay healthy and energized by taking care of yourself. This is essential if you want to be able to take care of others. Here are a few self-care ideas that can help you during this back-to-school season.

1. Get enough sleep: When you’re busy taking care of others, it’s easy to skimp on sleep but getting enough rest is crucial for Caregivers, who need to be alert and focused. Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep per night.

2. Eat healthy: It can be tempting to grab fast food when you’re short on time, but fueling your body with nutritious meals will help you stay energized throughout the day. Make sure to eat breakfast and pack healthy snacks and lunches for yourself.

3. Exercise: Exercise isn’t just good for your physical health – it can also help reduce stress and improve your mood. Even if you can’t squeeze in a lengthy workout, Taking a brisk walk or doing some simple stretches will do wonders for your wellbeing.

4. Take breaks: Caring for others is hard work, so make sure to give yourself regular breaks throughout the day. Take a few minutes to relax and rejuvenate, whether it’s reading a book, taking a bath or simply sitting outside in the fresh air. Putting aside some time for yourself will help you recharge and be better prepared to handle whatever comes your way.

It’s important to remember that taking care of yourself is essential if you want to stay healthy and energized throughout the school year. This means setting aside time each day for yourself, even if it’s just 10 or 15 minutes. Whether you use this time to read a book, take a walk around the block, or meditate, make sure you find something that helps you relax and rejuvenate so you can enjoy a stress-free school year.

5 Ways to Make Back to School Cleaning Easier for Caregivers

By Roz Jones

As much as we all hate to admit it, summer is slowly coming to an end and that means one thing – back to school time! For many caregivers, this also means another round of cleaning the house, from top to bottom, in order to make sure it’s ready for the new school year. In addition, the added worry of keeping your family safe from illnesses and diseases can be a daunting task. Here are five tips to help make back-to-school cleaning easier for caregivers:

  • Set up a designated “clean zone” in your home where everyone can leave their shoes and jackets when they come inside. This will help to prevent dirt and germs from being tracked throughout the house.

  • Make sure everyone in the home is regularly washing their hands with soap and water. Hand-washing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of infection.

  • Clean high-touch areas like door handles, light switches, and countertops on a regular basis. Use disinfectant wipes or spray to help keep these surfaces virus-free.

  • If someone in your household gets sick, make sure they’re staying in a separate room from other family members and using their own bathroom if possible. Regularly clean any surfaces that they have used, such as bedding and towels.

  • Keep your home ventilated by opening windows or using fans to circulate air. This will help to prevent the buildup of airborne viruses indoors.

Although it may seem like an impossible task, cleaning your house from top to bottom in preparation for the back-to-school season is definitely doable. And don’t forget – a clean environment is one of the best ways to keep your family safe from illnesses and diseases. I hope you found these tips helpful.

5 Tips For Caregivers To Survive The Back-To-School Season

By Roz Jones

The back-to-school season is always a busy time, but this year it may be especially challenging for caregivers of aging clients or loved ones. In addition to the usual concerns about helping children with school work and extracurricular activities, there is also the added worry of COVID-19 and other illnesses such as monkeypox. For aging individuals, the risk of complications is higher, and it is important to take extra precautions. Here are some tips for caregivers of aging loved ones as they navigate the back-to-school season:

  • If there are school-age children in the home, create a schedule for when your aging loved one will have contact with them. This will help to minimize their exposure to potential sources of infection.

  • Be sure to clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces in your home frequently. This includes doorknobs, light switches, countertops, and tables.

  • Talk to your aging client or loved one about any concerns and explain why it is important for them to stay home if possible and away from infected individuals. If they are resistant, try to find creative ways to keep them engaged and connected to friends and family.

  • If your aging client or loved one must go out in public, help them to stay safe by wearing a mask, washing their hands often, and avoiding crowded places.

  • Be sure to keep up with the latest information about COVID-19 and other illnesses, so that you can answer any questions or address any concerns your aging client or loved one may have.

With careful planning and a bit of extra effort, you can help make the back-to-school season a success for everyone in your care. Be sure to stay safe and healthy!
